How to renew your CPC before the deadline

Every five years you are required by law to renew your CPC. This doesn’t need to be a complicated process, this guide will help you through the stages of getting your CPC certificate renewed and back into work.

Why do I need to renew my CPC?

The CPC is designed to be renewable every five years to ensure that all commercial drivers in the UK are confident and safe behind the wheel. As you spend time driving, it is commonplace to pick up bad habits that, while small, can increase the likelihood of an accident occurring if left unchecked. The CPC ensures that you are trained to the best of your ability, ironing out bad habits and small mistakes that could endanger you and others on the road.

What are the risks of driving without a CPC?

If your CPC has expired and you still choose to drive, you can face legal action including a fine of £1000.

When do I need to complete my CPC?

There is no requirement to complete your CPC in one block of time. Many drivers choose to stagger their training over a longer period. So long as you have completed the 35 hours required by the end of your five year deadline, you can choose when and how often to train.

How do I find a training centre?

Training centres that have been approved by the DVSA are spread throughout the country. The best way to find one is by using the Government website’s search tool. Commercial Transport Training or CTT has been providing high quality training courses for nearly half a century. With training centres in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and throughout the surrounding areas, CTT makes renewing your CPC easier than ever.
