Commercial Transport Training Limited

What’s Included in ADR (Hazardous Goods) Training?

ADR. Three little letters that can mean a whole new level of responsibility, and opportunity, for commercial drivers. If you've ever considered transporting fuel, chemicals, or compressed gases, then ADR training is what stands between you and a career move with serious value. Let’s break down what it is, who needs it, and what you’ll actually learn.

What Does ADR Mean?

ADR stands for the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (Accord Dangereux Routier, if you want the French). It's a legal requirement across most of Europe including the UK for anyone transporting dangerous substances by road. In practical terms? It’s your passport to driving tankers, chemical carriers, fuel bowsers and other specialised loads.

Who Needs ADR Training?

ADR is essential if you:
Deliver fuel, gases, or chemicals
Drive tanker lorries
Transport items like fireworks, batteries, paint, or even medical supplies
Want to stand out in the logistics world with specialist credentials
If your job involves substances with warning symbols on them you probably need ADR.

What Does the Course Cover?

At CTT Ltd, our ADR training is comprehensive, but down to earth. Here’s a rough outline:

1. Core Module

The foundation. Covers:
Legal responsibilities
Vehicle signage and labelling
How to handle accidents and emergencies

2. Packages & Tanks

You’ll learn the differences between transporting goods in containers, cylinders, or tanks and how that affects handling, securing, and reacting in emergencies.

3. Class-specific Training

Dangerous goods are divided into 9 hazard classes. Depending on your role, you might study just a few, or all:
Class 2: Gases
Class 3: Flammable liquids
Class 6: Toxic substances
Class 8: Corrosives
...and so on.

4. Emergency Procedures

What happens if something spills? Or explodes? Or reacts with water? You'll be trained to respond confidently and safely - no guesswork.

5. Exams

Each section ends with a multiple-choice test. It’s not easy but with our prep materials and guidance, most students pass first time.
